Our Foundress and Co-Founder

The Congregation of Holy Family was founded on14 May 1914 by bl. Mariam Thresia along with the guidance of Servant of God Joseph Vithayathil, the Co- Founder undr the heavenly protection of the Holy Family Of Nazerath, the earthly Trinity. This is an indigenous Congregation, started at Puthenchira, in the Diocese of Irinjalakuda, Trissur Dt. Kerala

Bl. Mariam Thresia was born as the daughter of Thoman and Thanda of chiramal Mankidiyan , Puthenchira, Kerala , on 26 April 1876. She accepted Bl. Virgin Mary as her mother at the age of 12, after the loss of her mother. She died on 8 June 1926 of the fatal wound received on the day of the blessing of the Holy Family convent, Thumpoor. She was buried in the chapel of the holy family Convent, Kuzhikkattussery, Thrissur Dt., Kerala.

Servant of God Joseph has played a unique role in the life of Bl. Mariam Thresia and in the growth of CHF. His life was adorned with a sweetness of ‘tapas’, the perfume of prayer and enjoyment of hard work. He was the Spiritual Director of Bl. Mariam Thresia from 1902 until her death on 8 June 1926. The Co- Founder’s cause for beatification was initiated in 2003 and he was declared the Servant of God on 18 May 2004.

When the Congregation was divided into Provinces the Bharatpur Mission was given to Marian Province. The Mission could be developed into a Region on 26 March 1995 and raised to a Vice Province on December 16, 1999.The official inauguration of the Vice Province to a Province was on October 4, 2000.
